I love spaghetti. It is one of my favorite meals when it’s cold outside. Oh man, a nice bowl of spaghetti will always warm you up. Now when it comes to having the best spaghetti recipe, I always thought I did. Until I met my Husband. He’s got to get all gourmet with it. Ever since I met him I have made my spaghetti differently.
I always thought a good bowl of spaghetti just consisted of ground beef, spaghetti noodles, and sauce. Oh and sugar of course. Has to have sugar. No? I would love to start the sugar in the spaghetti debate, but we’ll save that for later. I would love to know what you think about that.
I think there should actually be a sauce made called traditional sugar. Only some people will agree with that and that’s okay. I like a good meaty spaghetti. I like to have said meaty spaghetti with sugar and Sriracha. It’s probably the best combination for spaghetti, Ever! In my opinion of course.
Here’s What you’ll need
2 boxes of spaghetti noodles. You will use about a box and a half.
2 large jars of your favorite spaghetti sauce
2lbs of ground beef (if you like meaty spaghetti) only 1lb if you don’t
1 cup of chopped onions
2 tablespoons of minced garlic
1 small jar of tomato paste and tomato sauce
1 8oz bag of Colby jack cheese
1 small can of sliced black olives
1 8oz container of sliced mushrooms
1 smoked sausage link, sliced.
Let’s put it all together guys
OK, boil your noodles as instructed on the box. However, take a bunch at a time and break them in half.
When the the noodles are in the water you can begin to brown the ground beef.
I like to brown my ground beef with the onions and garlic.
While the meat is cooking put your two large cans of sauce in another pot to warm.
Then drain the meat in a strainer.
While the meat is draining, brown your sausage slices in the pan you cooked the ground beef in and after about 3 minutes add your mushrooms in with the sausage.
To make this a little easier for myself, I like to put the ground beef back in the pan with the sausage and mushrooms, so I can use the strainer for the noodles.
Let’s Get ready to ASSEMBLLLLLE!!
OK! I do have a specific way I like to do this. That is why I separated this from the actual directions. I use a large pot.
First, mix the meat with the sauce. This is when you will add the tomato paste and sauce. The paste is pretty thick so you want to mix well.
Then in the large pot, put half of the noodles into the pot. On top of that put Half of your meaty sauce.
On top of this put about half a bag of cheese. Mix the cheese in well.
If you like more sauce in your spaghetti, this is a good time to add some.
I let this sit for a little while before serving just so that the cheese can melt.
Children and this spaghetti
I don’t know what it is about spaghetti and children. But my kids love spaghetti. Between Spaghetti and Macaroni and cheese, I don’t know which one they love most. Oh and Cheeseburgers. When I made this and my daughter was able to eat it, I thought, there is way too much stuff in this spaghetti. She is going to hate it.
No way! She loved it. She still loves it. I think maybe it’s just a pasta thing. I mean Who DOESN’T love pasta? lol.
I said all of that to say, if you have children, don’t worry they will also enjoy this spaghetti. The most I have to do for my daughter is try to remember to give it to her without cheese. I know how does a kid love cheeseburgers and not cheese. I will never understand. But it’s a “thing.”
May not be a quick and/or easy spaghetti recipe
But it sure is delicious. Honestly, this is pretty easy. Other than having to slice up a few things and the assembly this is an easy recipe. I think, all in all, it takes less than an hour to cook. So, in essence, it is pretty quick. Even though it’s not that quick it is something that the whole family will love.
I know there are so many different ways to make spaghetti, in my opinion, the best way to make spaghetti is the traditional way.
I am a big leftover person. Now, I don’t know if it’s because sometimes I like to be lazy. But When it comes to this spaghetti recipe and my Chili recipe. Those two are pretty much my favorites. I make enough to last a couple of days.
Remember my measurements are for a family of four. So if you have fewer people then you can probably half the measurements. But if you like leftovers then I would keep it the same. Some nights I don’t feel like cooking. So I make something like this to ensure that there will be some for tomorrow. Then I know that I don’t have to cook anything the next day.
My husband loves leftovers too, if the meal the first time was good. But he can only go three days with left overs. Then we have to switch it up a bit. We can then go back to the left overs. But after the 4th, if there is still some left, that’s it. No more leftovers. I think the kids could go a whole week when it comes to spaghetti. They would eat it every single day if you let them.
So, just fyi, I like to add garlic bread and salad to the meal. On the second or third day will add either chicken thighs or chicken wings. I like to add things to it so that its not just spaghetti for 3 days.
